Cathy and Tim – October 10, 2010

Cathy and Tim got married at the San Mateo Garden Center in San Mateo, CA.The wedding was a very simple ceremony that took place in a pretty little gazebo in an intimate garden setting. The bride, a wonderfully laid back and non-traditional girl, wanted to keep the decorations to a minimum so we focused on creating a bridal bouquet, boutonnieres, and two arrangements on pedestals to flank the couple as they said their vows. The colors were deep purple, black and silver, to go with the bride’s super hot short purple dress.  She gave me total creative freedom and I decided to focus on the deep purples with a lot of emphasis on texture and shapes to make the arrangements as interesting and intense as possible.

I used vintage cut-glass bowls filled with a combination of beige-lavender hydrangeas, white and crimson ranunculus, wildflowers, deep purple baby artichokes, jasmine leaves, Dusty Miller leaves, several types of garden roses, crimson scabiosa and thyme. I draped Spanish moss out of the bowls and added the peacock feathers as they reminded me so much of the bride and her beautiful tattoos.

The bridal bouquet is my most favorite so far! I chose to use flowers with rich, dark colors and loads of texture. As it was a fall wedding, I used a few sprigs of millet to keep it earthy-elegant. I hand-tied it with black silk ribbon, and added silver pearl pins as an accent.

The bride’s two young sons wore silk wrapped boutonnieres made of millet and Dusty Miller while the groom’s was a silk wrapped black calla lily with Dusty Miller leaves.

It was a gorgeous morning with perfect weather so I know the ceremony turned out beautifully. When I get pictures from the bride, I will definitely post them!
