Rainy Days and Escapades

First, I want to thank all of my wonderful customers for continuing to support and love Apartment 46. For those of you that don’t get the eNewsletter, I had to take a full time job to keep afloat during these unsteady times. The desire to provide a beautiful, comfortable and interesting shop is so important to me that I’ll do what it takes to keep the doors open. Valentine’s Day was outstanding! I was caught up in such a flurry of bouquet-making that I didn’t actually have time to photograph the flowers! It’s safe to say though that none were of your traditional roses and carnations variety. I used a lot of dark purple, almost black accents coupled with hot pinks and shocking oranges. I used mini pineapples and vines. It was delicious! I am happy to say that I received a lot of great compliments on the work and many a recipient was very happy to get an Apt. 46 arrangement. That truly brings me so much joy. I’m creating from my heart and hoping it will be received in kind and so far (fingers crossed) it is always is.

We had our favorite caterer, Axel Millsberry bake cupcakes for Valentine’s weekend to give to our customers and they turned out great! (No surprise) I ate far too many I have to confess. She revived an old Southern recipe for Devil Dog cake and infused it with a marshmallow cream 7 minute frosting. Talking about it is making me fatter! 🙂 Everyone that ate one was immediately in love.

You know that once in a while I feature an item that has a special quality. Right now I have a chair in my shop that is my absolute favorite. It’s a 1960’s Italian-made folding leather chair that is so elegant and unique it fits both masculine and feminine sensibilities perfectly. It is in perfect condition and it’s pretty darn comfortable. It was an awesome find.

I also have my usual assortment of spiritual and religious art but have a special fondness for a wooden crowned figure that is mounted on a museum block. I had adorned him (or her?) with a string of freshwater pearls to honor it somewhat but the necklace has since sold and I need to find something else suitable.

As the hours have changed, I am hoping that you will not think twice about making an appointment to come by after work. I am more than happy to meet you there and open the shop so you can look around at your convenience. We are also open on weekends, and tend to close up in the evening if it’s very, very quiet. I hope that you will continue to think of me when you’re wanting a special gift, needing flowers or want to brighten your home.

As always, Miranda and I look forward to seeing you!
