Things to be Thankful For

It’s been a little while since I’ve had a chance to update you all but good things are happening. When times are slow, it gives me the opportunity to reevaluate the space, and how I want it to flow. I’ve removed a lot of items but added others that work so much better. If you haven’t come by in a while, I invite you to stop on in! Oh, and if you can, bring me a skinny vanilla latte. 🙂There have been several new additions to the shop that I would consider key pieces. These are the highest end objects that I have, and they are both beautiful and valuable for many reasons. One is an incredible 1960’s faux bamboo gilt etagere. It’s something straight out of the pages of World of Interiors and it will be a phenomenal piece for anyone’s home. Another great find is the medieval armoire with cream velvet front panels. I did not opt to bring in the Brady Bunch looking drawers that went underneath it but I will likely add claw feet to it to gain height. However, it is the anchor piece of the shop and fascinates pretty much everyone who sees it. It has a total romantic evil castle vibe.

I have started to add a lot more fine art, and the result is a richer, more interesting environment. I have a few photography pieces by Patrick Beaudoin, a few antique Asian objects, a gorgeous Balinese silver mask, contemporary art by Fiori and vintage botanical prints from the 70’s (that I will hate to part with!).

Over the past month, my belief that every object in my shop has a very particular owner has been proven ten times over. Pieces that were admired but not bought, were snapped up by their rightful owners without a second thought. Pieces I found that I just knew I had to bring in, ended up in the homes of people going through various things in their lives. It feels great to know that they left with something wonderful that they loved. Many people continue to bless me with their compliments about how beautiful, relaxing, inspiring and fun my shop is. In some respects it does have to be about money, or I wouldn’t be able to have the shop, but on hard days, these compliments keep me afloat. I had one client come in to purchase a vintage Ikat rug and she told me my shop was “like a dream”. That made my week honestly.

Another amazing client, Nahanni Riversong, has been a total inspiration to me. She recently opened Verde Touch a massage and healing practice. Many of my most precious and beautiful Buddhist, and vintage Asian pieces grace her offices and it’s so wonderful to think that without even knowing it, I was helping her design a space that will bring calm and positive feelings to so many. In fact, I encourage you to visit her and take advantage of her otherworldly massages because it is definitely worth it!

Thanksgiving is coming, have you placed your flower orders yet? I’m excited to design some gorgeous bouquets so give me a call or stop by!

With that said, I am extremely thankful for the clients who have become friends, mentors, and supporters, and all those who sometimes just pop in to give me a book or say “hi” or even on my luckiest occasions, bring me dessert! I have met so many interesting, wonderful and really valuable people through Apartment 46 that every day, that part of it fulfills my dreams in every way. Chris and Andres, you both are so great and I thank you very sincerely for your tireless support of my store. Sandy, you always get the coolest treasures I have before anyone else does! I always look forward to your visits because I’m always intrigued by your process. Rachel, you have inspired me to create more and I love that. Thank you for that. Gwendolyn, you know you light up the whole store whenever you’re in. You always have a way of lifting my spirits. Lisa, how would I survive without you?! I mean, I’d still be wrapping flowers like a fool! 🙂 Gennette, I am so excited that items from Apartment 46 are worthy of inclusion in your bar! That’s the best compliment ever! Nahanni, you know that you bless me in many ways. Donna,  you became my mentor without knowing it or probably without even wanting the job but I am SO lucky to know you! Thank you for walking me home in the dark. 🙂 Heather, I aspire to be you and I am very grateful for the time you have spent educating and nurturing me.

To everyone else that has allowed us to be a part of your homes and lives, Miranda and I thank you. We are thankful for YOU, and we hope to continue to know you for a very long while.

Best,
Melisa
