Celebrate Your Space

As Summer comes to an end I’ve been exploring new themes in anticipation of Fall – darker colors, warmer woods, and interesting plants that invite a second look. Creating sacred space to me is about combining things that you truly, deeply love, with comfortable furniture or warm, soft, textiles.

To that end, I recently rediscovered vintage chenille and to me, it is the embodiment of luxury. As a child, my grandmother had fluffy white chenille bedspreads in each of her 5 bedrooms. As I grew up, I saw them as old, stuffy, even matronly. Now I look at them with a fresh perspective, noticing their complex patterns, the fantastic texture, and how sweet and clean they look in any type of setting. The chenielle I’ve brought into the shop has had to meet very high standards. I curate the shop carefully and want to showcase each piece individually. Therefore, you won’t find 75 bedspreads here, but you may find 4.

In the few short months that I have been open, I have learned a great deal from my many interesting customers. I am hoping that thy are also learning things in return. In exploring the shop, people have remarked that they are finding inspiration in the displays and that they are discovering new ways to use and enjoy items they already have in their homes.

I am a huge advocate of creativity and self-expression and helping people find new uses for beautiful things is a big part of the philosophy I live by. It is not magic to take chandelier crystals and hang them from found branches, but it creates a magical look that is easily recreated. The ebb and flow of dried Wisteria branches create the most fantastic forms perfect for hanging above doorways, fireplaces, or in the corners of rooms to add a bit of mystery.

A visit to Apartment 46 should always feel like an explore. There is always something new to look at, touch, and appreciate. This month’s theme is comfort in the garden, and I’ve created many ideas of outdoor seating and entertaining for folks to ponder.

Now is the time to grab your candles and lanterns, your blankets, your wine, and set up a nighttime picnic in your back yard, on the roof, or even in the driveway. Sitting under the stars with a sight chill on your face makes it easy to see the beauty in the small things.

Enjoy your day!
